May 2003

Remember, Reidar Dittmann, a prisoner of war during World War II will be speaking at our May 3rd meeting.  He will talk about other  experiences with the Norwegian Resistance Movement, also.  This is a special opportunity to learn about this, first-hand.  Invite anyone who might be interested in this very important account of those tragic times.

If you want to go with us to the Syttende Mai program in Hanska on Saturday, May 17th, make your reservation by May 1st.  Send a $22.00 check made out to Sons of Norway to Linda Stelter, 228 Bittersweet Lane, Mankato, MN 56001.    You may e-mail her at sltms228@chartermi.net or call her at 388-7139 if you have any questions.  We have reserved several places, but need to make final plans at our meeting on May 3rd so that we can give people at Hanska a definite number for the meal and the program.  We understand that! they will not refund money for tickets to their production.  We will carpool there.  Be at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church parking lot at 3:00 p.m., so we can leave at 3:15.  We will have a 4:00 dinner at the Unitarian Church on Hwy #257, one mile east of Hanska and then attend the 5:30 production in the high school.

Bjoro Haaland, the famous “Norwegian Cowboy” will be performing in Hanska on Saturday, May 3rd, not the 2nd, as we thought.  Since this is the same night as our meeting, we will not be arranging a car pool for it.

Everything appears to be on track for His Majesty Knut Vollebaek to be in Mankato September 12th and 13th.  Details are being finalized for this incredible weekend.

The lefse sold very well at our April meeting so we will have it for sale again at our May meeting.  It is $3.00 for a package of four.  Thanks to those who are working on stamps for Tubfrim.  Please bring the trimmed stamps to our May meeting.

The trip to the cities for the tour, Vikings exhibit and Omni Theatre went very well.  We had a full bus, wonderful weather and a great day together.

Our May meeting is on the first Saturday of the month because Mr. Dittmann had other commitments for the second Saturday.
